Urolift

Existing surgical treatments for men with symptoms from prostatic enlargement including laser and TURP (Transurethral resection) are frequently associated with adverse effects on urinary continence and sexual function.

We are now pleased to offer two minimally invasive day surgical options for men, Urolift & Rezum, both of which are able to deliver sustained and significant improvement in symptoms with no adverse effects on continence, erectile function and ejaculatory function.

Dr Cozzi has been at the forefront of establishing both of these newer, less invasive options for Australian men to avoid unpleasant side effects of traditional surgery.

Dr Cozzi carefully assesses the patients individual desires for symptom improvement (without side effects) and the patients’ individual anatomy to allow “bespoke” treatment of his troublesome and often longstanding symptom complex.

The data on outcomes from both procedures continues to mature and currently (as of March 2018) we have 5 year and 3 year follow up data available for Urolift and Rezum, respectively, demonstrating consistent, durable and re-producible results confirming the effectiveness of both procedures over the medium to longer term.

The decision to proceed to one or other of the options is made by shared decision making between the patient and Dr Cozzi after a full and thorough evaluation of the patient, his wishes and his individual anatomy.

The Urolift Procedure

Dr Cozzi has the largest single surgeon experience to date of implantation of the Urolift device for men with mild to moderate symptoms who wish to avoid the side effects of drugs or traditional prostate surgery.

Currently, as at March 2018, Dr Cozzi has treated more than 500 men with this novel, minimally invasive procedure with no reports of urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction or ejaculatory dysfunction.

The aim of this novel device is to-

  • Compress encroaching lateral lobe
  • Deliver UroLift® implant to hold in place
  • Typically ~4 implants delivered

The procedure is performed as day surgery without a catheter and with no reports of loss of ejaculation, impotence or incontinence.

The major advantage of Urolift is that a catheter is usually not required and symptom improvement often occurs within a few weeks of the procedure.
